Turret Arch in Silhouette with Sun Flare

This photo was taken just before sunset at Arches National Park. Arches is a wonderland of natural sandstone arches and other awe inspiring rock formations. Humans have occupied the region since the last ice age 10,000 years ago. It has been protected as a National Monument since 1929 and became a National Park in 1971.

. Canyonlands, just a few miles away, is another "must experience" national park if you're in the area!. Also, just a two hour drive to the East will take you to Mesa Verde National Park, the home of the 800 to 1000 year old Ancestral Cliff Dwellings (formerly know as Anasazi Cliff Dwellings).

Often in late Fall and Winter the skies here are graced with varied and dramatic clouds.
