Valley of Fire is a remarkable geological region of brilliant red rock and sand in the middle of an otherwise "typical" Nevada desert. It was a sacred ground for American Indians and still has fine remains of petroglyphs. Only 45 minutes North of Las Vegas, the region is little known to travelers and not seen from the main highway.
This photo of "The Seven Sisters" outcropping shows the sudden color change at its best against the blue-brown mountain range behind. The 4x5 camera captures the crisp, sharp detail of the foreground scrub as well as the distant rocks and hills.
