Mt. Pinos, California has been one of our favorite astronomy photo sites for 17 years. We are at 8350 feet and the skies are dark (although continuing developement is making them less dark each year), and very often the "seeing" is excellant for deep sky photography.
This early spring daytime photo is from the beautiful meadow just North of the "telescope area". The Wild Orchids are in full blossom amid the lush green growth of this marshy meadow. This region was home to the Chumash indians and occasionally we get to share the mountain top with their descendants and their solstice and equinox ceremonies.
