Fuji NPS 160 - Tachihara 4x5 field camera w/135mm lens - 1/4 sec. exp. @ f/45 - photo Bill and Sally Fletcher
Mt. Pinos, California has been one of our favorite astronomy photo sites for 17 years. We are at 8350 feet and the skies are dark (although continuing developement is making them less dark each year), and very often the "seeing" is excellant for deep sky photography.
This spring daytime photo is from the beautiful meadow just North of the "telescope area". The Lupin so prevelant in these mountains are in full blossom and the red trunks of the Lodgepole Pines reflect the bright sunlight at this altitude. This region was home to the Chumash Indians and their descendants still come to this mountain for solstice and equinox ceremonies.
